Update 19 May 2004: Canopy frame tooling and first article done

The two-piece mold for the canopy transparency frame is now done, and we have a first-article frame made in the tooling. I'm sorely tempted to bond the canopy transparency onto the frame at this time, but I'm going to resist because that would make it more awkward to develop other canopy-related parts such as the glareshield, pivot weldments, and the canopy latch installation.

Here are the pictures:

In the foreground is the first-article transparency frame. Beyond it is the two-piece mold the frame was made in.

Here the first-article frame is placed on the first-article fuselage. Note that the outer surface of the frame is uniformly recessed by the thickness of the transparency.
